Performance
Forest Grove Rat Terriers values performance activities as an important way to evaluate the working ability, temperament, and versatility of our dogs. The Rat Terrier is a breed with strong working roots, and performance events allow us to honor and preserve those instincts.
Participation in performance activities helps us better understand our dogs beyond appearance alone.
Why Performance Matters
Performance events provide insight into a dog’s trainability, drive, focus, and confidence. These qualities are essential to the Rat Terrier breed and play a meaningful role in our breeding decisions.
Through performance participation, we are able to:
- Evaluate working ability and intelligence
- Observe temperament under pressure
- Support sound minds and stable behavior
- Preserve the breed’s historic purpose
Types of Performance Activities
Our dogs may participate in various performance activities as appropriate for the individual dog. Participation varies based on age, interest, and readiness, and not every dog in our program is expected to compete.
Performance activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Obedience
- Rally
- Barn Hunt or instinct-based sports
- Other performance or working evaluations
Performance & Our Breeding Program
Performance experience provides valuable information that helps guide our breeding program. Observations from training and competition are considered alongside health, temperament, and structure when planning future breedings.
We believe that balanced Rat Terriers should be capable, adaptable, and mentally sound in a variety of environments.
Performance Achievements
Specific titles, placements, and accomplishments are shared on our Show Brags page.
